A woman claiming to be a former software engineer at Apple has started a massive debate online. In a recent viral video, she alleges that the tech giant intentionally makes older phones slower to force users into buying newer models. She claims that whenever a fresh device comes out, the company sends out software updates containing hidden code designed to make past devices lag and glitch.
The claim brings back memories of the past battery scandal
The video has gained massive attention on social media, making people talk about planned obsolescence again. Many users are comparing these fresh statements to a major controversy from 2017, widely known as Batterygate.
Back then, the company admitted to slowing down some older models through routine software updates. However, it stated that the main goal was to stop phones with aging batteries from shutting down unexpectedly, rather than tricking buyers.
Former software engineer at Apple is whistleblowing
She says whenever Apple launches a new phone, they would push an update to older iPhones with malware to slow them down. This pushes people to upgrade

This new allegation of intentional manipulation remains completely unproven, and the brand has not replied to the viral video yet.
Those waiting for the iPhone 18 lineup will get major new features
While these rumors spread, many buyers are already looking forward to the iPhone 18 Pro launch. Industry leaks suggest the upcoming series will feature a highly requested display design. The brand is reportedly working on moving the facial recognition sensors directly under the screen.
This shift means the familiar pill-shaped cutout seen on the iPhone 17 Pro and the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max could disappear entirely. The selfie camera might sit inside a small punch hole instead, giving users a much cleaner viewing area while the overall body shape stays the same.
