Dear LaTeX friends,
I thought it would be fun to do a small giveaway for the new 2026 edition of the LaTeX Beginner’s Guide.

Book link: https://packt.link/n96Mx
Book website: https://latexguide.org
You can win one of these:
One printed copy (US/UK/Canada only because of shipping logistics - otherwise eBook)
Up to two more eBook copies worldwide (if we get a bunch of replies)
The giveaway runs for about a week, since we’re not in a hurry here.
How to participate:
Be a forum member, or simply become one by registering
Reply here in this thread so I know you want to participate
Make your reply a bit interesting! For example, comment on one of these topics:
Why do you use LaTeX?
What do you love about it?
What frustrates you?
Favorite package?
TikZ or another drawing tool?
Best editor?
Biggest LaTeX success or disaster?
Anything else related to LaTeX
I always enjoy reading what people think about LaTeX, especially because everybody seems to use it differently. Some people care most about typography, some about automation, some about mathematics, some about diagrams, publishing, scripting, presentations, or simply having plain text source files.
A few details about the giveaway:
Why this book?
Because it’s brand new: it was released in March 2026. It covers precise formatting, mathematics, and citations for theses and presentations, and this 3rd edition also explores modern TeX engines and AI tools that can boost productivity in coding and writing.
Why become a member?
Mainly because I want to honor our forum members with this giveaway, though you can easily become one! You can subscribe to topics (like this one ) and participate in forum discussions about LaTeX. You can post your own questions and answer others'. If you see an old topic you want to comment on, feel free!
Why reply?
Because it’s fun to hear from the LaTeX community. Short comments are perfectly fine. You don’t need to write an essay. And I’m always happy to learn a bit about how people use LaTeX.
How do I win?
I’ll randomly pick a reply that I find interesting, motivating, funny, relatable, or simply memorable.
How do I get the prize?
The printed copy is shipped by Packt Publishing (restricted to US/UK/Canada).
The eBook copies can be redeemed worldwide through the publisher’s website. We will contact you by email.
Good luck — and I’m curious to read your replies!
Stefan
PS: If you want to buy it immediately, there's a limited-time offer on Amazon with 30% off; (edit) 35% has already been taken. It ends May 16.

Congratulations! I'm interested in being entered in the drawing. I started using LaTeX around 2010 and immediately liked the control I had over it and the various "environments" as opposed to Microsoft Word. As for writing equations...what a dream!
I think my favorite package is the Memoir package. I've spent a lot of time in it's very well-written manual, formatting a half-dozen books or so for publication.
