Kansas City Public Schools goes all-in on Apple: Transitioning to an “All-Apple District” with 30,000+ devices

Apple’s MacBook Neo in Citrus<br>In a significant win for Apple in the education sector, Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) has officially announced its transition to an “all-Apple district.” The move marks a major shift away from Windows PCs and Chromebooks in favor of Apple’s ecosystem, aiming to equip students with more secure, durable, and future-proof technology.

According to the district’s announcement, KCPS will replace more than 30,000 existing devices over time. High school students (8th grade and up) are already receiving MacBook Neos — Apple’s newest addition to the Mac lineup that combines quality, value, and industry-leading security. Younger students will continue using the district’s existing iPads and MacBook Airs as part of the rollout.

“Students are now proud of their schools because they have the best products,” said KCPS Chief Technology Officer Scott Jones.

The decision was notable enough to earn a shoutout from Apple during its Q2 2026 Earnings Call. Apple highlighted the MacBook Neo’s strong resonance in both enterprise and education markets, specifically calling out KCPS as an example of a district completing its transition to an all-Apple environment.

Why This Move Makes Sense for KCPS

With enrollment on the rise, district leadership emphasized the need for technology that doesn’t just meet today’s demands but grows with future needs. Apple devices are being positioned as the superior choice for reliability and security — a common refrain among education IT leaders who have increasingly favored Macs and iPads in recent years.

This isn’t just about hardware. By standardizing on Apple, KCPS stands to benefit from seamless integration across devices, powerful creative tools like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro (increasingly popular in education), and a unified management experience through Apple School Manager and MDM solutions.

A Growing Trend?

KCPS joins a growing list of districts and institutions making the switch to Apple. The combination of long battery life, robust build quality, excellent performance, and strong privacy features has made Apple gear increasingly attractive in K-12 and higher education environments.

As one of the larger districts to make such a comprehensive commitment, KCPS’s move could encourage others to evaluate similar transitions. The spotlight in Apple’s earnings call only adds to the momentum.

MacDailyNews Take: Congrats, students and teachers in Kansas City Public Schools, the future just got a lot more Apple-colored — and that’s a bright outlook indeed!
