Why release the spectrum imagery in the first place? What鈥檚 the purpose of that?

I saw an intern from US NRL decode a voice sample from a scanned waveform on a visitor's business card. This was ~1990.

I feel for the families. All these blustering people feeling entitled that they have the right to know or hear the audio. The world has certainly become quite dark.

I'm always for transparency but I don't think hearing the last few moments of someone's life will lead to a better understanding of the events; the point of transparency.
People react in all sorts of ways when death is imminent and I don't want it to become shock content.

"the NTSB does not release cockpit audio recordings"
sounds like you do, just in a weird file format.

Pretty soon because of people complaining that they could recreate the audio, all investigations will just stay secret.

The NTSB has just learned some surprising facts about what digital audio encoding actually is.

On a more serious note is there going to be a study done to explore the different outcomes post engine detachment. Had things been done differently by the flight crew.

Pulling a repository of public records is unprecedented. This is an inappropriate move by a government agency, regardless of the reason.

It's unfortunately way too late. Once stuff like that is out on the internet, it's out. The internet is forever and people will just keep posting it. Sad to see.

If they take "privacy restrictions seriously" then they wouldn't have released the sound spectrum imagery. This should read, "The NTSB is now aware they screwed up and request people not distribute the audio recording they inadvertently released to the public".

Just release the audio. @grok what is the reason they will not release the audio?
