Following our report last month, Google is beginning to roll out its gradient icon redesign for Workspace apps.
Update 5/22 : As of Friday, Android users should be widely seeing the new icons for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Updates for other Workspace apps are still in the process of rolling out. There’s wider availability on iOS, while it’s fully rolled out on the web.
Original 5/18: The first appearance of this major visual revamp is in the web app launcher available in the vast majority of Google websites in the top-right corner and Chrome’s New Tab page.
We see the new icons for Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Chat, Meet, Vids, Forms, Keep, Voice, and Tasks.<br>Advertisement - scroll for more content

I'm not exactly sure why they didn't just go ahead and redesign the rest of their suite outside of Workspace yet. It's a little jarring to see the new and the old side by side when it would've been more compelling to see everything updated all at once.

Meanwhile, these icons are appearing in the top-left corner of some Google apps. So far, we’ve noticed them in Google Keep and the homepages for Docs, Sheets, Slides, Vids, Forms, and Sites, though the favicons remain unchanged. The logos on the actual editors have yet to be updated.
With this revamp, Google is addressing the criticism of its previous icon set. Everything is more distinct in terms of color and shape. The previous mandate of including all four company colors in icons is clearly gone for the majority of apps, with Gmail the only exception.
The Workspace page container has been removed for most apps to allow for larger, more unique icons. For a full icon comparison, be sure to read our original report.
Update : The gradient icons are now rolling out to iOS and Android.
