Set a reminder

In March, we announced the development of Euro-Office, a fully independent office suite in collaboration with organisations from across Europe. Until now, only a public tech preview has been available to download. However, from 9 June, the first stable version will be ready for use in production on GitHub. This version will enable users to create and collaboratively edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Integration into existing solutions and ecosystems

The upcoming stable release is poised for broad adoption. Euro‑Office will be bundled with solutions from partner companies, notably our latest Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring to be released on June 9 as well. It will be available as an alternative to Collabora under the umbrella of Nextcloud Office. Users can select their preferred option with a single click.

IONOS Managed Nextcloud customers will be able to install Euro Office after the launch. The roll-out to IONOS’ Nextcloud Workspace offering is planned later this summer. Office.eu also integrates Euro-Office into its offerings. French XWiki expects to integrate it in Q4.

Our customers are not only evaluating functionality anymore, they increasingly ask questions like where is my data processed or under which jurisdiction can the stack be audited. We are seeing a significant increase in demand for a truly sovereign workplace solution, particularly in regulated industries and the public sector, but also among smaller and medium-sized companies.

Focus on stable performance and security

Since Euro‑Office launched, the team has prioritized delivering a stable, secure release as quickly as possible. The first milestone was to produce a usable version, which meant cleaning up the codebase and implementing essential security patches. The next phase will focus on developing desktop and mobile applications, as well as integration features. To ensure a truly sovereign solution, full support for open standards, particularly ODF formats, has been placed high on the agenda for the upcoming release.

A parallel objective is to lower barriers for new contributors to the open‑source project. To that end, automated testing pipelines have been established, code comments have been translated into English, documentation has been expanded, and the code has been further refined.

As a democracy we need an operating system and open source is this operating system. This is what creates freedom and this is what Europe needs.

We are moving forward even faster than we thought. One reason is that the project gained momentum and several additional organisation joined our initial group.

Euro-Office: a true community endeavour

Euro-Office is supported by a Europe-wide alliance of organisations. Alongside Nextcloud, the other organisations involved include IONOS, Eurostack, XWiki, OpenProject, Soverin, Abilian, BTactic, OpenXchange and Office.eu.

Many of these organisations provide dedicated development resources and create specific roles for this purpose. This creates jobs, drives innovation within Europe and ensures that taxes are paid here.

This is just the beginning. We also welcome individuals who would like to contribute to Euro-Office. All the relevant information can be found on GitHub.
