FAQCommon questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere? No. Every conversion on convert.now runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — there is no upload step. You can verify this in DevTools' Network tab: drop a file, run a conversion, and you'll see zero network requests with your data.

How is this different from convertio, cloudconvert, smallpdf? Those services upload your file to a server, run the conversion there, and send it back. We run the same kind of conversions in your browser instead — faster (no upload time), free (no per-day file limits), and private (no third party ever touches your file). The trade-off is that very large files can stress browser memory; for hundred-page PDFs and gigabyte image dumps, server-side services may still be more reliable.

Why is it free?Because the engineering work that costs other converters money — running servers to process millions of files — happens on your device. We don't pay for the compute. A Pro tier is on the roadmap for batch tools, command-line access, and complex server-side jobs like OCR. The browser tools will always be free.

What formats do you support?Images: PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG. PDFs: merge, split, convert to images, extract text. Image-to-PDF, PDF-to-image, and image format swaps in any combination. See the full conversion matrix on /tools.

Does this work on mobile?Yes. Every tool is built mobile-first. The drop zone falls back to your phone's file picker, and conversions run on-device just like on desktop. Large batches may be slower on mobile due to memory and CPU constraints.

Is there a file size limit? No hard limit — the browser handles it. In practice, files under 50MB convert quickly, files up to a few hundred MB work but are slower, and gigabyte-class files may run into browser memory limits. If you hit issues, batch in smaller groups.
