This page explains, in plain language, what Capote Finance does with your data
when you use this financial-analysis tool, how the free tier and paid subscription
work, and what rights you have under EU law. It also covers billing, VAT, and the
third-party services we rely on. Capote Finance is registered in
the Netherlands (KvK 42038750), VAT number NL005447565B56.
You can reach us at [email protected] .
0. Relationship to the Terms of Service
This Data Policy describes how Capote Finance
handles personal data and billing records. The contractual terms
governing your use of the service — including limitations of
liability, the "not investment advice" notice, and the warranty
disclaimer for calculated metrics — live in the
Terms of Service. If a clause in
this Policy and a clause in the Terms conflict, the Terms prevail.
1. Who we are and who this policy covers
"We", "us", and "Capote Finance" refer to the business
operating this application. The service is offered worldwide over the public
internet. Dutch and EU law (including the GDPR) apply to our processing of
personal data regardless of where you use the service from, because we operate
from the Netherlands.
This policy covers everyone who visits the site: anonymous visitors with
no account, registered users on the free tier, and Premium subscribers.
Sections that apply to only one of those groups are flagged in their headings.
2. What the app does
Capote Finance is a tool for analysing publicly-listed companies. It
consumes fundamental and market data from Alpha Vantage, organises it into
financial statements and derived metrics, and lets you build your own on top of
it. We do not provide investment advice. Nothing on the site is a
recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security.
3. Data we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
Account data : username, email address, and a hashed password if you register. Your password is never stored in plaintext.
Your Alpha Vantage API key , if you choose to supply one. It is stored so we can make Alpha Vantage requests on your behalf. Only you and our infrastructure see it.
Your custom metrics, sections, and saved preferences created inside the app.
An anonymous device identifier , set as a secure cookie the first time you visit. Covered in section 5.
Contact submissions : the name, email, subject, and message you write on the contact form, delivered to [email protected].
Billing data , if you subscribe: we store only a Stripe customer ID, subscription status, and renewal date. We never see your card number. Covered in section 7.
Operational logs : HTTP request metadata, timestamps, error traces. Used for debugging and abuse prevention, retained for up to 30 days.
Cached company financial data fetched from Alpha Vantage. This is not personal data; it is shared across all users. Covered in section 6.
4. Legal basis (GDPR art. 6)
We rely on the following lawful bases, depending on the activity:
Contract (art. 6(1)(b)) for running your account, delivering paid features, and processing subscription payments.
Legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)) for the anonymous device cookie, free-tier quota enforcement, rate limiting, operational logging, and aggregate referral counting. Our interest is running a working, abuse-resistant free tier; yours is that we do this without building per-user tracking profiles. If this balance ever tips against you in a specific case, email us.
Consent (art. 6(1)(a)) for the optional newsletter (see section 9a). The signup form ticks no box by default; you opt in by ticking the newsletter checkbox at signup or toggling it on from your profile, and you can withdraw consent at any time without affecting account access.
Legal obligation (art. 6(1)(c)) for retaining billing records as required by Dutch tax law (see section 7).
5. Anonymous device identification and the free tier
Visitors without an account are allowed to load the data for up to 3 tickers per
rolling 48-hour window , served through our shared server
key. Loading a ticker fetches the entire dataset...
