First of all, we want to thank everyone so much for all of the messages of support over the last week. The team here have all been reading your comments since we made our announcement, and your support and words of encouragement really mean a lot to us here at Last.fm. Thank you as well to everyone that subscribed to Pro this week, we're truly grateful for your trust and support.
When we announced that Last.fm is independent, one question came back faster than any other: here and from the press: who actually owns it now?
Fair question. Most companies would answer it with headshots and a line about “the next chapter of growth.” We could. But this is Last.fm. So we thought we’d start here.
The ‘Staff’ badge on our profiles isn’t new; we’ve been working at Last.fm since 2008 – clocking up over 40 years between us, in product, artist relations, operations, commercial, legal, social, and marketing. The three of us came together as the management team to take Last.fm independent again.
Why? We bought it because we’ve spent a serious chunk of our lives inside it and understand its untapped potential if it’s pointed in the right direction. That’s exactly what we’re going to do.
Between us, we have just over 382,000 scrobbles, almost 27,000 artists, and accounts going back to 2008.
Matt — okspud1
Scrobbling since 2012. 169,468 scrobbles across 11,292 artists, M83, Radiohead, HÆLOS, and Oasis at the top. My single most-played track of all time, though, is Olivia Rodrigo’s “vampire,” 284 plays and climbing, entirely thanks to my daughter. Scroll a little further, and you’ll find Baby Shark and the Encanto soundtrack keeping it company.
Michael — insipidhues
Scrobbling since 2008. 169,800 scrobbles, which is a few hundred more than mine as I write this, a fact he is keen I don’t forget. 8,746 artists, led by 5,462 plays of Björk, then Being Dead, Black Country, New Road, and Danny Brown. Genuinely better taste than the rest of us, and people have been arguing with him in his shoutbox since 2013.
Simon — simonmoran
Scrobbling since 2008. 42,922 scrobbles. Fewer than us two, but 740 loved tracks, more than either of us, so he clearly cares the most. London Grammar, New Order, and Depeche Mode are all-time. Someone told him to “get an avatar and listen to some goddam tunes” back in 2009; seventeen years on, he has half-managed one of those two things.
For now, follow us, check your compatibility, and let us know if our taste is questionable. We’ll be here, scrobbling right alongside you, same as we always have. That’s who owns Last.fm now. Us. People who care about this exactly as much as you do.
We understand there have been many other questions surrounding recent decisions and future plans. We look forward to sharing more openly, and you’ll see it in how we communicate as a team from here: more notes, more of the why, and more information as we ship.
Same service. Same team. New chapter.
We’ll be in touch again real soon.

Great news. I hope we'll see big changes in the future. The website is drastically lagging behind other streaming sites in every respect. I hope we'll also get a newer, more elegant application soon, similar to Spotify, as the current look is very outdated and too minimal.

Good to see people who care in charge. As for compatibility it is low / very low and medium in the same order as the names in the post, but given my stupidly wide account high compatibility ratings aren't that common for me

Come on guys you are falling behind, I have just hit 15.000 artists (okay. probably with some overlap).
Here's your new slogan: "Last.fm - music is not a race, it's a marathon !"

Hopefully this will lead to the ability to fix false re-directs? That's the one last major issue I have with the site.
Glad Last.fm has gone independent though.

Great followup. Can't wait until your first threads on the site and improvements and goals. Please. Please focus on the Music Library. Removing "Remastered" applying corrections, correcting song and artist charts. Yes I have...
