Wow... That's amazing!! I don't think it's very healthy for the wildlife....

Ornithologists will tell you nest material is often abandoned because it get mold and mildew which sickens nestlings. Synthetics drain rainwater and don’t get nasty. Bird mom finds high-performance nest material just lying around.

It's a bit morbid, but I'd like to see an exhibit full of these where the room lights turn off and the fiber gets illuminated

The environmental consequences are gonna be intergenerational and will be another tragic legacy of this savagery.

80 years after WWII western Europe is still pulling huge bombs out of the ground. The landmines and fiber cables will be in Ukraine for generations to come.

That in my opinion, is museum worthy as an artifact of war.

How horribly beautiful.

Interesting… hopefully the squirrels are not gathering the tiny anti personnel mines and squirrelling them all away for the winter.

could be kind of cool. birds started putting cigarette butts in their nests because nicotine is an antiparasitic. many modern synthetic antiparasitics are neonicotinoids. probably not good that were polluting the environment but some animals actually benefit from it. silver lining in the nest (pun intended).

日本にいるカラスは針金ハンガーや青い色の素材を好んで巣材にします。ドローンの光ファイバーは新しい巣材ですね。光ファイバーは何kmにもなるので、鳥が短く切るのでしょうか。

I had to read twice. In one point it’s awesome how modern materials find the way into nature while at the same time it’s shocking me because it’s a wartime were nature finds away around to integrate itself and knowing that 🇷🇺 forcefully attacks animals with intention.

🇺🇦 In Ukraine, an important migratory region for birds in Europe, the conflict threatens thousands of birds and entire ecosystems.<br>War disrupts birdlife in the short term and can alter behavioral patterns in the long term. Recovery can take decades. 😞

It's sad that animals have to use manmade materials to build a nest because their own habitat has been destroyed.
