AI is eating your MOAT — Josep VidalJune 11, 2026
AI is eating your MOAT
Strip away the branding and most SaaS pricing is the same sentence: "this is annoying to do yourself, pay us instead."

Vercel is the textbook example. Their experience was unbeatable. Connect your repo, click deploy, done. No Dockerfiles, no configs, no servers to babysit. You paid extra for it, sometimes A LOT extra, but the time saved and the experience made it worth every euro.

One click is now one prompt

Look now at Railway, one step down the convenience ladder. Generic services, you drop a Docker image on them, you write some config yourself. More cumbersome, worse UX, but way more control and a MUCH friendlier bill.

I would have never switched before agents, barring some extreme necessity, but now an agent writes for us the Dockerfile, the build config, the deploy file, all of it, from one prompt.

Vercel's one click deploy is now Railway's one prompt deploy.

AI is hungry and it can go deeper

The same logic applies to Railway versus a VPS on DigitalOcean. I never wanted to manage SSH sessions or firewall rules, and now I don't have to, an agent does it for me.

And yes, the same applies to DigitalOcean but horizontally, is DO's bill too steep? Let's switch to Hetzner, again, what before was a migration mess is now a series of prompts.

We know that a big company with a complex product can't switch from one provider to another in a single prompt, but even at that level, the MOAT has eroded: switching providers or building the solution in-house has never been as easy as it is today.

The future is bright for consumers: fierce competition, better products, lower prices. For you, SaaS founder, it's the Hunger Games.
