Future of Blogging: More Interconnected

Future of Blogging: More Interconnected

I believe the future of blogging is more interconnected, with notes that are continuously updated and blog posts written as one-offs.

The connection between a Note and a Blog Post is crucial. One gets updated more frequently, a blog does not. For example, my personal Second Brain connects to my

blog posts and my

book chapters. I can simply reference a note in the Blog and book with a wikilink [[ ]], and it will link automatically to my note. But why?

Because of the note ‘Business Intelligence’, I don’t want to explain in detail in a blog where I talk about the semantic layer. And the field is changing so fast that the Blog on those topics, and any information I add, is outdated at any moment after publishing. But if I link it to my second brain, I can continue my Blog with the actual topics and update the Business Intelligence note independently. And because it’s linked to my book and Blog, it’s automatically updated for both when I update my note.

These continuously updated notes, evolving Zettels, are hosted in simple Markdown files and offer a dynamic and enduring platform. Unlike many platforms I’ve seen come and go throughout my career, this approach avoids the trap of platform lock-in.

These notes show you the power of it. This is the second brain note, and you see the connections to the Blog (blue) and book (purple), and all green interconnected notes, as well as backlinks on the right side. This gives you powerful insights that you don’t get any other way than through interlinked notes and websites.

I don’t think this is the end yet. WordPress had a feature that let you interlink other WordPress blogs. AT Protocol with Open Social and other means has also features to interconnect. I will follow up on this, but in the meantime, I wrote a full article that goes more into this topic at

Why I Still Blog — and Why the Future of Blogging Is Connected and also at Future of Web.

# How to Organize Knowledge Best Way?

I think the linked note is the best way to organize knowledge, especially optimized for Learning . Knowledge doesn’t grow linearly. It expands as a network over different seasons. Some notes grow faster, some slower. Digital Garden and Second Brain website is exactly that.

Take my Second Brain, for example. In the above note,

Functional Data Engineering is enriched with backlinks, offering connections that might otherwise remain hidden. For more pioneering examples, explore Other Public Second Brains.

As an avid Markdown enthusiast, I’ve explored the significant advantages of Markdown over rich text in Markdown vs Rich Text. Rich text platforms like Google Docs, WordPress, or Webflow, and even other Open Subscription Platforms such as Substack and Medium, tend to enforce their constraints. In contrast, Markdown-based Note Taking Apps, especially powerful tools like Obsidian, ensure the longevity and flexibility of your content as Plain Text Files.

# Want to Build Your Own?

If you want to build your own second brain, I have shared the code and each step comprehensively at Public Second Brain with Quartz. I use Quartz for this.

Begin with Smart Note Taking, the cornerstone of each blog post, and evolve these into Continuous Notes. Continue exploring in Digital Garden, and Why have your Website is a good thing.
