[Discussion]What was the Amiga community's actual reaction to Doom? (self.amiga)
submitted 5 hours ago by Such_Bonus5085

YouTube videos , and articles written in the here and now, tend to dramatize and embellish things. The arrival of Doom was painted as the explosion of Krakatoa or Mt Vesuvius. But what was the room temperature actually like for the Amiga community back then?

[–]postexitus 30 points31 points32 points 5 hours ago (6 children)
Doom was the final nail in the coffin. It was apparent even from Civ 1 days (quickly followed by Syndicate) that Amiga was being left behind. I've continued on the (sinking) Amiga ship until 2000, but boy was that hard.

[–]Der_Kommissar73 3 points4 points5 points 1 hour ago (2 children)
About 1990, my dad bought a 16 MHz 386SX PC with VGA. Many of the games I wanted to play at that point- Railroad tycoon, Civ 1, Wing Commander- played better on the PC. That said, I generally still preferred to play them on my A500 w/ 1 mb Ram. They loaded slower, but RT and Civ 1 felt better while playing, in a way that's hard to describe now. Wing Commander- that had a better frame rate, and I finished it on the PC.
