The Ukrainian MoD, in partnership with U.S. based AI company, Palantir Technologies has developed an AI development environment called Brave1 Dataroom that is working on advanced models to detect and intercept Russian drones by using data extracted from the Russia-Ukraine war.

Brave1 Dataroom is a secure environment where developers can access structured datasets to validate, train, and fine-tune military AI solutions. These include visual and thermal datasets of aerial targets collected in real-world conditions, the Ukrainian MoD said.

One of the key areas of focus is the development of technologies for the automatic detection and interception of enemy drones. Companies use datasets that cover various types of aerial targets, collected under different weather conditions, at different times of day, and using different sensor systems. This enables AI models to be trained on scenarios that closely replicate the conditions of modern combat.

Special emphasis is placed on countering Shahed-type attack drones and other enemy drone threats being deployed by Russia in the war against Ukraine. The use of real-world data significantly improves the accuracy of target-recognition algorithms, reduces response times, and enhances the effectiveness of autonomous interceptor drones.

Brave1 Dataroom was created within the Brave1 defense innovation cluster through a joint effort involving the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Scientific Research Institute of Military Intelligence, and the U.S. company Palantir Technologies.

How AI is already being used on the battlefield

Dozens of systems based on artificial intelligence and computer vision are actively employed on the front line, carrying out a range of tactical and strategic combat tasks, including:\

autonomous drone guidance and targeting;

GPS-independent navigation under electronic warfare conditions, day and night;

automated processing of intelligence data;

detection of concealed enemy equipment and personnel;

control of autonomous firing positions;

data analysis and forecasting of enemy actions within the DELTA system.

To equip 100 percent of drones operating on the front line with computer vision and artificial intelligence as quickly as possible, the government is expanding cooperation with foreign companies.

A unique partnership framework is also being expanded through the Avengers Labs. Through the platform, Ukrainian and international companies can train their AI models on millions of annotated frames captured during real combat sorties.

The Ministry of Defense previously reported that next-generation Ukrainian interceptor drones are already autonomously intercepting and destroying Shahed-type UAVs. A Brave1 participant has developed technology capable of automating 95 percent of the entire interception process.
