The UKs Smartphone Nude Filter Plan is Insane | World of MatthewMobile Menu
The UKs Smartphone Nude Filter Plan is Insane
My Blog
On 8th June, the Labour government once again misused gov.uk to post another political article. This time pressuring big-tech firm (Google and Apple) to scan all phones owned by children or anyone who hasn’t given big-tech their real life ID for “nude images”.
Even ignoring their example of FaceTime having a less than 100% accurate nudity detector (which won’t be running at the frame rate of the video call but more like once a second or less, as AI is resource-heavy. That solution is seen as not good enough anyway; the government wants full real-time scanning of the frame buffer). The government is effectively saying to children that legal content is suddenly not allowed when viewed on a phone screen.
Even excluding that, most documentaries (even with nudity) don’t require an age rating. In movies and Tv; the BBFC allows nudity for all ages (U = “occasional nudity with no sexual context” and PG = “nudity with no sexual context”). Even more insane is the fact a child can enter any art gallery or museum as see plenty of nude statues or paintings but as Labour’s article shows a zero appetite for exceptions if that child wants to take a picture of content that viewing is perfectly legal for them it’s blocked.
(harveysart/UnlimPhotos)
Or what about the naked bike rides (one example included) that pop up randomly across the UK. Legal to view in person but pictures are blocked.
The government appears to want no exceptions. All nudity is blocked unless ID proving you’re over 18 is provided. They claim it’s fighting child sexual abuse, but in reality, the word nudity is used in the article, not “explicit” two completely different things under UK law.
A desperate government wanting a “legacy”. Effectively equating simply nudity with sexual abuse. Disgusting.
None of these mention how education will be affected by schools moving away from physical worksheets to iPads. GCSE art often covers painting and drawing nudes, and sex education is important to avoid teenage pregnancy and promote good sexual health later in life.
Google and Apple are given 3 months to comply with the demands with threats of “criminal liability” aka jailing big tech Boses (Should China be allowed to jail them? Or Russia?) if they don’t comply. Intending to bypass political debate using pressure to avoid anyone questioning them.
A joke of a country.
Published: 15th June 2026
Tags:
nudity,
Follow Me:
All Content (RSS)
Videos Only (RSS)
Main Navigation:
Home Page
Blog
Photography
