Welcoming Our Newest Core Team Members

June 16, 2026

Among the many talented people who contribute to Zig, the following people have accepted invitations to join the core team:
Ryan Liptak
Ali Cheraghi
Justus Klausecker
Casey Banner
Pavel Verigo
All of these contributors have demonstrated, repeatedly, an appetite for tackling tricky problems, a habit of cooperation, refined taste, and crucially, social awareness and kindness.
Core team members’ judgement is trusted when it comes to reviewing and merging pull requests, pushing to master branch, and taking leadership of components of the Zig compiler and toolchain. They are also welcome to make or champion proposals to change the language. Whatever a Zig core team member is trying to accomplish, I consider it my highest priority to unblock them. These folks are next in line for ZSF contracts once funds are available.
So far, core team member selection process has been exclusively based on drawing from the pool of active contributors. Compared to a typical tech industry interview process, this is a brilliant strategy because it results in people who have already proven themselves to be capable, considerate, and self-directed. However, in retrospect, it also has produced a team of all men. While we have a strong diversity of personalities, thought patterns, and countries of origin, women are completely unrepresented by Zig project leadership. Honestly, I’m not sure what to do about this. Picking people from the pool of contributors was the only trick I had up my sleeve. This may be something that needs to start from the top, starting with board members of the non profit. I will bring up this topic in our next board meeting.
Anyway, that’s a problem to be tackled separately - it should not detract from welcoming these new team members, each of whom deserves their own spotlight, like the one we did for Alex Rønne Petersen. I have resisted the urge to talk about each person’s areas of interest and accomplishments, saving it so we can trickle out those highlight posts over the next few months.
Welcome to the team! I’m looking forward to working more closely with all of you.
-Andrew
