Announcing the early beta of Mathesar Cloud
Kriti Godey<br>2026-06-17
We're excited to announce that Mathesar Cloud is now in early public beta!
Mathesar Cloud is the hosted version of Mathesar, our open-source application for viewing, editing, and querying data in Postgres through a familiar spreadsheet-like interface. With Mathesar Cloud, you can use Mathesar without installing software or managing your own servers.
This early beta is the first step toward offering Mathesar as a hosted service for a wide range of users, from solo hobbyists to larger organizations and enterprises.
Why we’re launching Mathesar Cloud
Mathesar’s mission is to build better tools for working with data. We believe the full power and control of databases should be accessible to everyone, not just people with technical knowledge or specialized skills.
We think we’ve made real progress toward that. Mathesar's interface is intuitive and familiar to end users, with a spreadsheet-like interface for viewing, editing, and querying data. For administrators, we’ve worked to make Mathesar easy to install, maintain, and upgrade. Mathesar recently reached 5,000 stars on GitHub, and many people and organizations are using, following, shaping, and contributing to the project.
We’re very proud of what we’ve built so far. But there’s a limit to what we can accomplish with a self-hosted-only approach. We've long recognized that we needed a path for non-technical users and power users to start using Mathesar without hosting their own infrastructure. Many of our users have also told us that they lack the time, skills, or interest in managing their own deployments.
Mathesar Cloud helps us expand our reach and impact, while also giving our current community a more convenient way to use Mathesar. It also gives the project a path towards long-term sustainability. Any revenue from Cloud will go to Mathesar Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that maintains the project. Offering Mathesar as a paid service lets us maintain the project sustainably while staying true to our principles and keeping Mathesar 100% open source, nonprofit, and self-hostable.
What’s available now
We're launching the Mathesar Cloud early beta with a limited free plan that includes a hosted Postgres database and a single user account. It's a starting point: a way for people to try Mathesar with their own data, and a way for us to learn what users need from a hosted version.
At this stage, our goal is to get initial users and feedback as we work towards supporting a much wider range of users over time, from solo hobbyists to enterprises.
Where we're headed
The next step is a paid hosted Team version of Mathesar that expands beyond solo use cases with multiple databases, collaborators, and feature parity with self-hosted Mathesar, including control over Postgres roles and permissions. That plan is coming soon; please sign up for our mailing list to stay informed.
We really want to make Mathesar work for everyone, regardless of how big or small your needs are. We know that organizations have different priorities around the software they run, and many want to reduce their operational footprint so they can focus on their core work. We offer custom consulting and dedicated hosting options for organizations and clients of all sizes that may benefit from a solution tailor-made for them. Contact us if you're interested in talking about that.
Try Mathesar Cloud
If you've wanted to try Mathesar without hosting it yourself, sign up at mathesar.cloud. This is still an early beta, so the product, plans, limits, and onboarding flow will keep evolving as we learn from real use.
We're interested in hearing what you try, where you get stuck, and what would make Mathesar Cloud useful for your work. Your feedback during the early beta will affect what we work on directly, and we're excited to make Mathesar easier to try, easier to adopt, and more sustainable for the long term. We're also excited to see what you use Cloud for. Email us at hello@mathesar.cloud, we would love to hear from you!
