MathWorks adds Renesas hardware support packages

MathWorks has announced new Hardware Support Packages for Renesas’ RH850/U2A microcontroller for automotive applications and the RA6T2 microcontroller for industrial controls. The MATLAB and Simulink integrations allow engineering teams to move from simulation to embedded code running on hardware with automated build, flashing and on-target execution, while reducing manual integration steps.

This type of integration can help embedded development teams maintain traceability between simulation models, generated code and target-level testing, which is becoming more important as control systems grow more complex and validation requirements become more demanding.

The new support packages provide a Model-Based Design workflow across automotive and industrial programs and can help reduce integration effort during deployment. Renesas’ RA microcontroller platform is intended for industrial and robotics applications that require connectivity, real-time responsiveness and embedded control. Integration with the RA family supports prototyping of servo and variable speed drive applications, with one-click deployment for hardware bring-up and bench validation of motion profiles and closed-loop tuning.

The Renesas RH850/U2A microcontroller is used in automotive electronic control units and includes features for applications such as EV motor control, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and body electronics. Automotive engineers developing traction motor control for electric vehicles can deploy field-oriented control and regenerative braking algorithms from Simulink to RH850/U2A-based ECUs. This can reduce the time from concept to vehicle-level testing and simplify calibration across drive cycles without requiring separate initialization code or custom build scripts.
