Unreal deprecrates Blueprints, their visual programming language in UE6.1

Signez1 pts0 comments

Unreal Engine (@UnrealEngine): "Hey Everyone. Our aim is to ship Early Access for UE6 by the end of 2027 and Blueprints will be supported in Early Access and the initial UE6 releases, but deprecated in the future.

Deprecation will mean a feature continues to be available without improvements, then is eventually removed. This timeline will be clearly communicated along with ways to migrate projects to Verse.

We recognize the value that Blueprints brought to UE4 and 5, but we strongly believe that Verse will become a more powerful and capable way to create game logic. We’ve already seen both experienced and new programmers create amazing things with Verse that would be challenging to do with Blueprints.

More details and conversations from us around this to come as UE6 Early Access approaches." | XCancel

Are you going to implement Visual Verse?

I'm willing to give the UE6 changes a chance (aside from the metaverse stuff, zero interest in that) - but I *really* hope we see some significant performance improvements, otherwise indie devs will just migrate elsewhere.

So if UE6 will support blueprints early on, is this only for migrating your UE5 project over and underneath it will adapt the new Verse system? So are they similar in some sense? I mean they have to interact and "transform" into the new system in some way right?🧐

Interesting... Just started with UE5, and I gravitate towards c++ over BP, though it had started to grow on me for things like Niagara and sound management.<br>Hopefully verse will also be as versatile

if someone has to learn a coding language you might as well go for c++

Most devs simply won't move to UE6 then

Node-based houdini user here. Wtf, guys? Yeah, AI can code, but AI tokens cost a lot of money and we're all about to be unemployed and poor in this business.

How about you keep improving tools to convert Blueprints to c++ ? Alot of individuals and team love to use Blueprints

I'm a designer not a programmer, picked up UE5 exactly because of blueprints (visual scripting) and making my first game with it. Probably not going to switch if it means learning everything from scratch. Sounds annoying and disappointing as for now.

I've been using Unreal Engine since 1999, yeah I am that old. All these time this clearly the WORST decision Epic ever made, shooting your own feet.

Give us Verseprints then.

It shouldn't be long before a blueprint to verse conversion and/or verse visual coding tools; official or community made

Im greatly disappointed that you guys are going to ditch blueprints for what will likely be bloated and inefficient coding. I will never upgrade to UE6.
