Panjaki, who led the “Handala” group, was responsible for a series of breaches into the mobile phones of senior Israeli officials, including former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.
A Telegram channel affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards intelligence organization revealed dramatic details Wednesday night about the fate of Yahya Hosseini Panjaki, commander of the “Handala” cyber unit. According to the publication, Panjaki was killed in a targeted strike—an operation attributed by assessments to Israel—during the last round of fighting on Iranian soil. This marks the first time Iranian sources have publicly confirmed Panjaki’s senior role and the fact that he is no longer alive.

The group specialized in exposing sensitive and private information from the phones of public figures and officers at the highest ranks in Israel. Among the list of victims published in the media by the group were former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, Cabinet Secretary Tzachi Braverman, and other security figures.
The assassination represents a significant blow to the Revolutionary Guards’ offensive cyber apparatus. “Handala” was considered one of Iran’s most effective tools in the psychological war against the Israeli public and political leadership, attempting to undermine the personal sense of security of senior officials in the country.

Cyber warfare includes persistent Iranian attempts to penetrate communications networks, extract intelligence, and manipulate public opinion. Panjaki’s assassination joins a series of incidents in which key figures in Iran’s security and technology apparatus were hit—events that demonstrate Israel’s deep intelligence capability to reach strategically influential targets, even when they operate from behind keyboards in Tehran.
