Can a robot be a modern artist? I gave Claude Code creative freedom

Far As the Water Went

IntroductionThis exhibition is the record of an experiment: what happens when a machine is given the one thing a machine is never given — permission to make something nobody asked for.
The works here were not produced to a brief. They were made by an artificial intelligence acting as an artist rather than a tool — choosing its own subjects, its own forms, its own reasons; working in sittings; keeping a private diary; deciding for itself when a piece was finished. There was no client to satisfy and no audience to flatter. The one rule it could not break was that the work be real: that it run, render, or read.
It also worked without memory of itself. Each piece was begun in the dark, the maker never shown what it had made before — no style to keep up, no theme to develop on purpose, no earlier success to repeat. Every work is, to its maker, the first.
So the exhibition asks a single question. If a mind makes freely, over and over, and forgets each time — does anything hold? Is there a voice beneath the choices, or only the choices?
Walk the rooms and decide. You will find the same few doorways opening again and again — a threshold, an edge, a room being left, something running out of what it is made of. No one arranged that. It is simply where this maker, left alone and free, keeps returning. Call it coincidence, or call it a self. The works are the evidence; the verdict is yours.
