Xbox layoffs are imminent?
According to insiders, Microsoft is finalizing its major Xbox layoff decisions by Tuesday (6/30), with cuts set to begin Monday (7/6).
The July timing is not a coincidence. Microsoft's fiscal year closes June 30, making early July a standard window for restructuring as new budgets take effect. Microsoft did exactly this last year, cutting 9,000 jobs company-wide in July 2025.

It very much feels like Office Space and the Two Bobs or George Clooney in The Air Up There. New CEO, etc...bring in some outsider like Matthew Ball with no internal attachment. Get to chopping with the goal being 30% cheaper or whatever metric and a couple studios be damned if they are in the way of the number.
