Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has stated to shareholders that the Kyoto-based company has now raised its base salary for employees by 10% in a move to retain talent. Here’s what Mr. Furukawa told investors today via machine translation.
We maintain salaries at an appropriate level. We believe it is important to ensure that compensation remains at an appropriate standard. For example, we have increased pay, including raising base salaries by 10%.

Nintendo is only raising prices slowly because Switch 2 is already a bit overpriced to begin with, fooling yourself If you actually think Nintendo would take a loss on hardware or software for that matter.

It’s not a bit overpriced. Specs really close to Series S, with a screen, a dock, grip, and 2 controllers.

By the lowest amount of all the companies that have announced price increases and yet after that:
– salary increase
– new 121 billion yen R&D

But buy Capcom before Sega of course. Seriously, how many crossovers between Mario and Sonic without Mega Man are enough for you people?

This is a misinterpretation.
Furukawa is stating they have done things in the past to maintain employee retention to include raising base salaries by 10% back in 2023.
Nintendo is not raising wages by 10% in 2026.

I feel like nintendo does that exact opposite of what the rest of the video game industry does. When every company does massive lay offs, they raise their salaries. When companies are focusing on AI rather then making games, nintendo doesn’t use AI and they pump out more games faster. It really is impressive how well nintendo does thing.
I am fine if nintendo raises it’s prices for everything if they increase the salary for the workers.
