My friends and I have bought nearly every type of scanning dictionary pen ever sold in China. Scanning dictionary pens for students are products designed to alleviate the anxiety of East Asian parents; most of them are basically a rip-off. However, due to our strict school rules, it became a trend for a while for students at some schools to bring their own scanning dictionary pens.

While it may seem like there are an endless variety of options, in reality, a few small studios release open-source designs for the scanning dictionary pens they’ve created and profit from them; after that, contract manufacturers print their own knockoff logos on the product packaging and casings. Currently, the designs that are still in production and relatively mainstream include:学王、格灵、MD、双猴等等（80% of the mainstream ）

This time, we’re looking at the 学王 solution, which has long been notorious for its high prices and low-end specs. To cover up their production costs of just 10¥, they like to include a “cast my course videos” feature in their custom operating system. After capturing the network requests, I discovered that the content comes from a teacher-created resource by Dushulang—clearly, they enjoy selling pirated content as paid material.

The A Series, as the entry-level model in their lineup, is equipped with only Android 4.2 or 4.4 (depending on the model—generally, models with larger screens run 4.4, such as the A26 Pro) and a Spreadtrum processor released over a decade ago.
