Today’s Liveclip business brief: updates on Comcast, Merck, and Polestar.

M&A dominates the day

The biggest theme cutting across today’s headlines is consolidation, with several major deals closing or advancing:
Merck KGaA has agreed to acquire Bio-Techne for $11.3 billion, marking the German science and technology group’s largest takeover in more than a decade. Merck will pay $73 per share in cash for the Minneapolis-based life-science tools company, expanding its presence in advanced research tools, precision diagnostics, and cell and gene therapy. The transaction, which remains subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, would rank among the largest corporate acquisitions in Minnesota history.
In semiconductors, onsemi agreed to acquire Synaptics in an all-stock transaction valued at roughly $7 billion, the chipmaker’s largest acquisition to date. Synaptics, best known for introducing the first notebook-computer touchpad, has expanded into edge-AI processors, wireless connectivity, display technology, and other human-machine interfaces.
The companies are pitching the combination around “physical AI”: pairing onsemi’s power-management and sensing chips with Synaptics’ computing and connectivity technology for robotics, industrial systems, and intelligent devices. Investors reacted negatively, with onsemi shares falling in early trading after the deal was announced.
India’s Persistent Systems is pursuing a roughly €1.27 billion acquisition of German IT services firm Nagarro , creating a combined engineering group with about $2.9 billion in annualized revenue. The market reaction was volatile: Nagarro shares surged as much as 90%, while Persistent fell double digits on integration and execution concerns. The deal also drew scrutiny after Nagarro’s stock rose nearly 20% before the announcement, prompting expectations of a regulatory review.
Comcast’s big restructuring

Comcast announced plans to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky into a separately listed media company, while the remaining Comcast refocuses on broadband, wireless and business services. The split significantly unwinds the media-and-pipes conglomerate model Comcast built after acquiring NBCUniversal in 2011.
Polestar’s US exit

Swedish EV maker Polestar confirmed it will stop selling new vehicles in the US from the 2027 model year after failing to secure authorization under federal Connected Vehicle Rules targeting Chinese-linked automotive technology. Sibling brand Volvo , also Geely-owned, received approval. Polestar says existing owners will retain servicing and software support. Separately, it completed roughly $640 million in debt-to-equity conversions.
AI: the Mythos race heats up

Chinese security firm Qihoo 360 unveiled its “Yitian Tulong” AI cybersecurity suite, claiming its Tulongfeng vulnerability-finder can rival Anthropic’s restricted Mythos model. Separately, Z.ai’s open-weight GLM-5.2 is drawing attention for approaching frontier-model performance on some coding and cybersecurity benchmarks at markedly lower API prices.
Gaming: Bungie layoffs continue to reverberate

Sony -owned Bungie reportedly cut nearly 300 jobs after releasing Destiny 2’s final live-service update, shifting its focus toward Marathon and early-stage projects. The restructuring follows Sony’s $765 million impairment charge on Bungie, with recent coverage highlighting the studio’s increasingly uncertain path forward.
Also notable
