Amazon Leo, formerly Project Kuiper, is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities beyond the reach of existing networks, and we began a full-scale deployment of our satellite constellation in April 2025.

Amazon Leo has completed 14 missions and launched more than 375 satellites, making it the third-largest constellation in orbit. We plan to increase our launch rate over time with more than 100 launches secured to date.

July 2: Atlas V delivers 29 more Amazon Leo satellites on final Atlas flight ahead of transition to Vulcan

United Launch Alliance (ULA) successfully deployed 29 Amazon Leo satellites into low Earth orbit following a liftoff at 12:30:15 a.m. EDT on July 2. Named LA-08 (Leo Atlas 8) for our eighth flight on ULA's Atlas V rocket, this was our 14th mission to date and brings the total number of satellites deployed to 396. It was also the final mission in our Leo Atlas launch campaign. Our next Leo mission with ULA will be on its new, heavy-lift Vulcan rocket, which will carry even larger Leo payloads and help increase our deployment rate.

"Atlas V has played a critical role in the early deployment phase for Amazon Leo, launching 224 satellites with a 100% success rate across all eight missions, and we’re excited to build on that foundation with ULA as we transition to Vulcan," said Melissa Wuerl, Amazon Leo Director of Launch Systems. "With hundreds of flight-ready satellites standing by at the Cape and a new, dedicated vertical integration facility ready to support Leo Vulcan 1 and subsequent missions, we have a clear path to increase launch and deployment cadence, helping us quickly expand network coverage following an initial service rollout later this year."

Atlas V deployed the satellites at an altitude of approximately 289 miles (465 kilometers) above Earth, at which point The Amazon Leo team assumed control of the mission from our 24-hour mission operations center in Redmond, Washington. Initial contact and health checks are complete, and the satellites will now be raised to their assigned operational altitude of 392 miles (630 kilometers) and fully commissioned to begin delivering service to customers.
