Strata — know your pitch before you commit to the line
Backcountry trip planning · iOS
Know your pitch before you commit to the line.
No spreadsheets, no five-app shuffle. Strata reads the
avalanche bulletin, the slope angle, the aspect, and the live
weather for any route — then tells you, in plain English,
whether today is a go. Plan it, track it, and bring your crew
home. Native iOS, offline maps, no ads.

Smart route discovery
Browse curated routes or search millions of mapped trails. Nearby alternatives rank safer lines first, based on today's conditions.
AI safety verdict
A Claude-backed analysis fuses the avalanche bulletin, slope angle, aspect, and live weather into one plain-English call: go, watch, or avoid.
9-tile conditions ribbon
Weather, AQI, cell coverage, snow, avalanche danger, and streamflow — pulled live and color-coded safe, watch, or avoid at a glance.
Multi-day planner
Build trips with waypoints, overnight camps, and stacked descents. A pre-flight prep sheet lines up your activity, crew, return-by time, and gear before you head out.
Live group awareness
See your crew's real-time positions on the map, and fire a one-tap SOS that shares your location with the whole group.
Tour recaps & memoriesNEW
Your recorded GPS track against the plan, elevation profile, and stats — built into a multi-day trip story you can look back on.
What's actually different
Strata doesn't just show the data. It makes the call.
Other apps hand you a slope-angle layer and a weather widget and
leave the judgment to you at the trailhead. Strata weighs the
things that actually hurt people — wind slabs on lee aspects,
steep rollovers, a forecast turning while you're above
treeline — and gives you one verdict you can read in five
seconds.

SE Strata's safer alternative
Works solo. Better with a crew.
Every screen works on its own — plan a route, get your own
safety verdict, record your track, no partners required. When
you tour with others, add them to your roster and see everyone's
live position on the map. If something goes wrong, one tap fires
an SOS with your coordinates to the whole group. Track recording
and your planned route keep working long after the bars disappear.
Pro: draw lines that snap to the mountain
The Pro route builder snaps every waypoint to real trail geometry
using a precomputed graph and A* pathfinding, then vets the line
against slope angle, aspect, and today's avalanche danger. Pro also
unlocks downloadable offline map packs, unlimited saved routes, and
trip reports for multi-day tours.
See pricing →
How your data is used
Strata uses your location to show you on the map, record your
track, and share your live position with the crew you choose —
and nothing else. Route-safety analysis runs through Anthropic's
Claude as a data processor that never trains on your data. Maps
are downloadable for offline use, so the app keeps working with no
signal.
We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising. We do
not set tracking cookies or run analytics pixels on this website.
Read the full Privacy Policy and our
Security overview.
Safety is the point
Strata informs your decisions — it doesn't make them for you. Every verdict shows its reasoning so you can overrule it with eyes open.
Works off the grid
Track recording and your planned route keep working with zero bars — and Pro adds downloadable offline map packs for the regions you tour.
Independent studio
Strata is small and independent. The same hands that ship the design ship the code and answer the email.
