Getting back my closed Google Play Developer account
My Google Play Developer account is closed
So imma try to make a post about the process of getting my closed Google Play Developer account since i think this can be an interesting journey.
What happened?!
What kind of insane activities did i have going on at my Google Console account??
Nothing really. I had some old apps, barely any users, had'nt updated the apps for years and i got hit with an email about some kind of policy change.
I needed to update my apps or my account would be closed. These were old apps, like pre good Expo era, so pure React Native. Honestly i has this email in my inbox forever unread as a todo... but i sorta forgot about it because i didn't wanna fix my old unused apps, i wanted to build new ones! I'm also an iOS guy myself so i didn't have a lot of motivation.
Time flew by and i wanted to login an upload a new app and i was greeted by the Account Closed message, woops. forgot... guess we're iOS first company now.
Step 1 - Contact support
I tried making a new account, pay everything again. I'm ready to get back on the Android horse! But alas I'm completely blocked from even creating a new developer account! They only linked to their support.
So I sent them an email on June 27th 2026 and simply said something like:
Hey, my account is blocked, it's totally on me but I'd love to pay and get back into publishing Android apps
Step 2 - It's a no go
On 30th of June 2026 they answered and pretty much said
Sorry, we understand your frustration but your account cant be recovered. Multiple warnings we're sent out and you gotta create a new account using a different email address
First of all, hella quick response from a huge mega corp!
Second of all, i wasn't frustrated! I made that clear in my first email!! jk hehe its probably standard phrasing from them.
but I'm impressed by their speed of answering, maybe ai, maybe not, who knows these days. But at least i know, my account is dead forever and i need to make a new one using a new mail.
No problem for me, i got enough custom email domains for a billion years but if you're a gmailer or hotmailer even, then you gotta be careful out on the digital streets. If you're lazy, you might get locked out... forever!
Handshakes & highfives,
Matzie
