I use Guided Access on my iPad to lock the device into a single app, which is particularly useful while I’m in focus in note-taking (or studying) or for presentations, or when lending the device to someone else. However, I often find myself needing to adjust the brightness without exiting Guided Access because control center is not accessible. I also turned on auto-brightness, but it sometimes doesn’t adjust the brightness to my liking. So, I created a shortcut to quickly change the brightness while in Guided Access mode. Assistive touch is available even while Guided Access is activated and can be used for this purpose.
Here are the following steps to set it up:
Download the Shortcuts app from the App Store if you haven’t already.
Download the “Set Brightness” shortcut from here.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access and enable it, if you haven’t already. Set a passcode for Guided Access.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch > Single-Tab: Set “Lock Rotation”, Double-Tab: Set “Set Brightness”. For the “Long Press”, I set it to “Camera,” but this cannot be used while Guided Access is active. It comes in handy when you are not in Guided Access mode.
Now, when you are in Guided Access mode, you can double-tap the AssistiveTouch button to quickly access the “Set Brightness” shortcut and adjust the brightness without exiting Guided Access. Hopefully, this will make your experience with Guided Access on the iPad more convenient and enjoyable
