ROKIT HEALTHCARE said it will begin what it described as the “world’s first” human kidney regeneration surgery in July, after securing approval in Korea for an advanced regenerative medicine (RM) clinical trial (CT).
The study will evaluate the safety and regenerative potential of the company's autologous omental patch technology in humans, according to the company.
ROKIT said the procedure combines AI-based three-dimensional bioprinting (3DBP) with robotic surgery. The company plans to seek advanced RM treatment approval in the fourth quarter.
The company cited preclinical data showing a 63 percent kidney regeneration rate (RR) and said it holds kidney regeneration-related patents in Korea, the U.S. and Japan.
ROKIT is positioning the program for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, including through potential medical tourism in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East (ME) and Japan.
