Jagex Launcher for Linux Beta OUT NOW!

Jagex Launcher for Linux Beta OUT NOW!

16 July 2026

Last month, we let you know about our plan to transition all legacy accounts to Jagex Accounts in late 2026. We also shared an important commitment too; to ensure all players retain access to Old School RuneScape and RuneScape through the platforms we support today.

Now, weve got a couple of big updates to share including a surprise shadow drop of the Jagex Launcher for Linux!

Jagex Launcher for Linux Beta

Our first Jagex Launcher for Linux Beta release is out today! Like, right now!

This first release is focused purely on getting native Launcher support for Linux into your hands. Through this Launcher, you can login to your Jagex Account securely and access RuneLite to play OSRS on Linux.

You might notice things are a little different compared to the existing Launcher for now. To make sure we got this into your hands as soon as we could, were running it on a different technical base, with an eye to porting over various features from the existing Windows and Mac Launcher in the future.

Once youve installed the Launcher and logged into your Jagex Account, youll see a drop down to select your character, and then youre ready to click Play Now. This button will automatically install RuneLite for you on first click.

While were in beta-mode, your login session will persist up to two weeks at a time, after that point, youll need to do a quick re-log and authentication before getting back on the grind.

Its as easy as that!

As this is a Beta, theres a potential for some unexpected issues. Well be keeping a close watch for your bug reports and any issues we need to get sorted. More on that later in the blog.

Expect us to keep up the support for our Linux community going forward. Well be adding support for our friends on the RuneScape side later this year, and were looking at your requests for Steam Deck and other specialist distribution methods support too.

Apple Silicon Launcher

Well also be delivering an Apple Silicon native version of the Launcher this year, supporting Old School RuneScape and RuneScape.

Well continue supporting Mac Intel for as long as its a formally supported platform by Apple too.

A Note on Jagex Accounts and VPN Concerns

The team have been working away on your feedback from the Jagex Account Transition announcement. While weve got plenty to look at as we continue this work, we wanted to follow up on the question around VPN use today.

VPN Issues

We know that some of you rely on VPNs to be able to play. While we dont sanction or support the use of VPNs, its clear the Jagex Account transition could block a small number of players that do rely on them from being able to play at all.

While we dont have specific news today, we wanted to let you know were taking it seriously. We want you to be able to continue to play, though we need to balance this against maintaining strong security for the game.

Were looking into possible solutions and well let you know where we land.

Managing your Characters

We have seen some players saying they would like to delete or manage their characters to make logging into their current favourite quicker.

We do offer a feature to hide and re-order characters which might help in some situations.

You can do this simply by clicking Account and Character Settings on the Jagex Launcher or via account settings:

Head over to Jagex account character management

Click Edit Characters

Drag and drop the order of your characters

Click Hide on the character you dont want to see in your drop down. Dont worry, you can always unhide later!

Feedback On Our Linux Launcher Beta

To close out, lets talk about how to give us feedback on our new Linux Launcher Beta!

In the bottom right of the launcher, theres a quick logout style satisfaction rating you can provide. Please do let us know what you think.

If you encounter any bugs or issues, drop a report via our Official Discord server, through the #Linux-Launcher channel. Our team will be logging any reports in here for our technical folks, and we may reach out from time to time for more information.

Thank you to all our Linux players for your continued support. We hope you enjoy a more direct route to getting onto the grind.
