The One Question That Actually Tells You If UAE Payroll Software Is Any Good

I spend a lot of my working life inside SEO tools, checking search volume, checking who ranks, checking what people actually type into Google before they type anything into a sales form. So when I went looking at how “payroll software/platform UAE” performs as a search term recently, one thing jumped out that had nothing to do with keywords at all.
Every single result on page one is the same article wearing a different logo. Ten best payroll tools. Feature comparison table. A line about WPS compliance that could have been written by someone who has never actually run a UAE payroll cycle. Nobody asks the one question that would actually tell you anything.
Thanks for reading Adil's SEO Optimized Notebook! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

Here it is: what happens when a SIF file gets rejected?

Not what the vendor’s marketing page says about compliance. What the actual screen shows a payroll admin at 4pm on the day salaries are due, when a bank has just bounced a file back and the clock on MOHRE’s penalty timeline has already started.
I think this is a genuinely good filter for more than payroll software. Ask a vendor in any compliance-heavy category what happens at the exact moment their system fails, not whether it fails, everything fails eventually, but what the failure actually looks like on screen, and you learn more in thirty seconds than an hour of feature demos. The vendors who answer clearly, with specifics, built the product around the actual rules. The ones who go vague, or pivot back to a feature list, retrofitted something generic and hoped the compliance part would hold up.
It matters more than usual right now because the rules genuinely changed. MOHRE’s Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026 came into effect on 1 June, and it reset the WPS timeline in ways that are easy to miss if you’re not looking closely. Salaries are now due on a single date, the first of each Gregorian month, and an employer is compliant if 85% of total wages go out on time by then. Miss it and the escalation moves fast: alerts within two days, a work permit freeze within five, fines and reclassification by day eleven, and by day twenty one, for larger establishments, asset attachment and a Public Prosecution referral. The old thirty-day grace period for new hires is gone entirely.
A piece of software/platform built before June, or built for a different market and patched for the UAE, has no particular reason to know any of that. That’s not a hypothetical. I went checking, out of curiosity more than anything, and found that even some existing WPS compliance content our own team had published was still describing the old 2022 rules. Good writing, just overtaken by a regulatory change nobody had gone back to check against. If it happened to us, doing this for a living, it’s happening across a lot of vendor sites too.
So if you’re actually in the market for payroll software right now, skip the listicles. Ask every vendor the SIF rejection question directly. Ask when they last checked their validation logic against Resolution 340. The answer tells you almost everything else you need to know.
I wrote up the full breakdown, what changed, what to actually check before signing anything, and how the right choice differs for a small team versus a shift-based manufacturing workforce versus a free zone company, over on Medium blog. Worth a look if you want the complete checklist rather than just the filter question.
Adil Rashid Lone, SEO Manager
Peko.one
Share
Message Adil Rashid Lone
