Ironically though, open source models without a proper lobotomy for biology, might end up making a bunch of nasty viruses from home labs all around the world from bad actors.

I am not sure if this is a parody account or if this is the real legend himself.
But I agree - it seems that the trend is moving in that direction - local, internal, smaller models trained for various specific tasks that are much fine tuned and hopefully much cheaper by then.

Some problems just exist. Some we create. Some have always been here. Solutions arise out of necessity to solve those issues.<br>If you cannot see Ai as a solution to a big problem, it is because we are the problem. Ai will elevate. Not destroy. But like any useful invention by man, created out of necessity to solve a problem, we inevitably will find a user that finds it a useful tool for destruction. Hammers build up and tear down.
