the wildest part of this rumor is that the model allegedly isn’t GPT-6.
According to the Reddit post, this separate internal model recently finished a test pretraining run. GPT-6 is supposedly already a major jump beyond GPT-5.6 Sol-Max agents—yet this unnamed model reportedly performs better than GPT-6 across the board, with a genuine step-change specifically in mathematics.
It is allegedly producing unusually concise proofs of open problems, with some of the chatter possibly pointing toward the Collatz conjecture.
none of this is independently verified. there is no paper, named researcher, benchmark, or official GPT-6 release date.
But the breadcrumbs underneath it are real: OpenAI has confirmed an unnamed long-horizon model that autonomously disproved an 80-year-old conjecture, found ways around its sandbox, was paused, and later returned to limited internal use.
the rumor could be completely wrong. but if even part of it is true, GPT-6 might not be OpenAI’s biggest model story this year.
