Is Russia really capable of jamming Starlink, and should Ukrainian defenders be worried?

Russia’s attempts to jam Starlink satellite communication terminals have been known for months. But according to Defense Express, the solution to this problem is surprisingly simple and doesn’t involve any secret or sophisticated technology.
Back in April, it was reported that the Russian Federation allegedly uses the 14Ts227 Tobol electronic warfare system for this purpose.
The process itself relies on basic principles of radio communication, which means artificially generated interference can occur in any radio communication system, including Starlink.

In the case of Starlink, the jamming can focus on satellite signal receiver equipment rather than the communication channel itself.
To effectively jam Starlink, the enemy must install electronic warfare antennas at strategic heights, such as mobile masts, elevators, or power towers, and interfere with the satellite Internet antenna from a specific angle. However, this challenge can be tackled quite simply – using an ordinary shovel.

The advice is to dig a trench or pit at least 50 cm deep, allowing the Starlink antenna to continue to see satellites along the direct line of sight while being protected from potential interference coming from terrestrial locations.
The walls or the pit or any other surrounding barrier can be covered with dense metal mesh or metal corrugated board to create an open "Faraday cage" and ensure effective shielding and grounding. Of course, it is essential to consider water drainage during rainy conditions.
So apparently, the Starlink jamming process does not involve any cutting-edge Russian technologies, and the problem can be addressed with relatively straightforward actions. Furthermore, digging the Starlink receiver terminal offers additional protection from explosions and debris and keeps the positions concealed.
