CodeFloe - A code hosting platform for the modern age is a platform for version control, collaboration, and software development using Git, the most widely used version control system.
Whether you're a solo developer, an open-source project, or an enterprise team, CodeFloe welcomes you. Backed by a modern and thoughtfully designed cloud-native infrastructure, CodeFloe provides a seamless, scalable and efficient development experience.
Everything is built in the open, from the underlying software up to the deployment process of any infrastructure part. Through the Forum, the community can take part in shaping the platform's future direction and contribute to its development.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the data stored?
Everything is run and stored on Hetzner, a cloud provider from Germany. Hence, all data is protected by the German data protection law and GDPR. Backups are replicated across multiple (European) cloud providers.
Are rate-limits in place?
Ideally, we aim to avoid any rate limits. However, in an era of AI crawlers and bots, we may need to implement rate-limiting measures to ensure fair usage and prevent platform abuse. This also applies to data usage per user and related activities. Our goal is to ensure that any "normal" user can access and use the platform without restrictions.
Who is running this platform?
CodeFloe is being run by a team of passionate developers and enthusiasts who are dedicated to creating a better alternative to proprietary development platforms. All responsible persons and their roles are visible in the respective repositories of the CodeFloe organization. We believe in the power of open-source software and the importance of privacy and freedom in the digital age. (CodeFloe has been founded by Patrick Schratz (pat-s) in 2025).
What is the best way to report an issue?
CodeFloe operates a Discourse-based discussion forum where all platform-related discussions are taking place. We currently do not offer individual support, and there is no guarantee that a responsible person will respond to your issue. However, we strive to address user requests and feedback to the best of our ability.
Can I migrate repositories from other platforms?
Yes! Forgejo, the underlying forge software, includes a built-in migration tool that allows you to import repositories from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and other Git platforms while preserving history, issues, and pull requests.
Is corporate use permitted?
Yes, we welcome individuals, non-profits, and for-profit companies.
Why do you ask for donations?
CodeFloe aims to provide professional service while keeping costs low (or zero) for most users.
However, a platform of this type comes with a bunch of costs (domains, database, storage, bandwidth, backups, etc.). Donations help to cover these costs and ensure the sustainability of the platform.
The priced tiers only exist to cover additional hardware costs of individual users which require extended resources for storage and CI/CD (CPU/Mem) in a transparent manner.
Donations will be split transparently between the people maintaining/developing the platform (see the LiberaPay org).
