An oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after colliding with a naval mine, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-linked Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday.
Tasnim said the tanker struck the mine after leaving the route designated by Iran in the strategic waterway.
There was no immediate official statement from Iranian authorities regarding the incident.
Iran, Oman make 'some progress' in talks over Strait of Hormuz navigation, sources tell 'Post'<br>Iran and mediator Oman have made "some progress" over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, though it remains unclear whether Iran will accept the proposal currently on the table, two sources familiar with the matter told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
One of the sources said Oman has proposed establishing a regional consortium that would oversee maritime security, search-and-rescue operations, and other forms of regional cooperation.

"The key point is that participation and payments would be voluntary," the source said.
According to the source, Iran has so far opposed the idea, insisting instead on mandatory payments, arguing that vessels would otherwise be barred from transiting the strait.
