GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux

GOG previously said they planned to look closer at Linux, and that it was the next major frontier - and they're now working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux.
While GOG do support Linux from the web store, as they offer Linux downloads for games that support Linux, GOG Galaxy itself has been missing since the initial release. Eventually, that should change as we have some positive news to share on that.
Speaking to GOG over email, GamingOnLinux got a response from joint-CEO, Krzysztof Papliński, who said:
"Linux continues to be one of the topics we hear the most about from our community, and we really appreciate the passion and patience of everyone who’s been asking about it.
Following the role we announced earlier this year, we now have the specialist on board and are actively exploring the best way to approach Linux support for GOG GALAXY. This is a significant undertaking, so while we’re not ready to share any specific plans, timelines, or results just yet, it’s very much an area we’re investing time and effort into.
We’re excited about the possibilities and will be happy to share more when the time is right!"
Hopefully it won't take too long.
You can install and manage games from GOG on SteamOS / Linux using our guide - but direct official support is always better.

Hopefully something good will come out. That is clearly the most important missing feature from the shop, even if most games run out of the box with wine.

That's gonna be the real catch. At this point, Galaxy on Linux is nice, but only half the battle.

I have recently been using "Heroic" quite a bit, which has made me invest in more GOG-titles. However, a great port of Galaxy to Linux, might really make me trade in Steam as "my first GoTo-place of purchase" for GOG instead.

Does GOG Galaxy have any inherently useful features on its own that would make one desire it instead of just using Heroic ? I'm talking beyond the brand effect and the illusion it will bring any worthwhile sense of first-class citizen support.

I assume it will initially only work with native games and eventually they might start using proton or a fork for it for windows games.
Regardless I really like this change because I like GOG.
