July 30, 2026<br>·2 min read<br>My partner and I share a Claude Pro account and both regularly use the Claude Desktop app. Recently,<br>my partner has been performing some shopping research and has been using Claude to help with it.<br>What was intresting to me was that on my machine, Chrome windows were opening and navigating to<br>websites to research the products my partner was interested in.<br>As we&rsquo;re both software engineers we decided to research this a little further. Both of us have<br>Claude Desktop installed with the Claude for Chrome extension installed and configured. However on<br>occasions where their Chrome was closed, Claude seemed to delegate to my machine without showing any<br>indication of this happening.<br>What&rsquo;s more concerning is that Chrome is not my daily driver, it usually sits in the background and<br>I rarely interact with it. I discovered the open tabs purely by accident when clearing up some old<br>windows.<br>Right now we&rsquo;re trying to run other experiments to see if we can block the tool on one machine and<br>see if Claude (and more worryingly Claude Code), will automatically switch to the other. If it does,<br>we&rsquo;ll have to rethink our workflow as unmitigated remote Claude access to a machine that isn&rsquo;t our<br>own is an uncomfortable thought.<br>It&rsquo;s worth noting that neither of us has chosen to use<br>Claude remote-control, the<br>Computer use preview or<br>Claude code on the web. What I&rsquo;m trying to say is<br>that we haven&rsquo;t explicitly opted in to any remote access features.<br>This is uncomfortable for me and highlights the power and trust I have given Claude (probably<br>naievly), but thankfully it was only my partner. For anyone sharing with less trustworthy actors, or<br>worse, selling your credits to unknowns, take heed as you may be putting your own digital safety and<br>privacy at risk.
