Argentine investors are planning a land-based salmon farm in Tierra del Fuego following changes to provincial aquaculture legislation that reopened the door to controlled salmon production.
The project would see an ARS 12.5 billion (€7.4 million) investment in an 80-hectare recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility near Río Grande, creating an estimated 200 to 250 direct jobs.
The venture is backed by investors from Argentina's Salta province in partnership with an unnamed Chilean salmon company, according to local media. The facility would produce salmon entirely on land, as open-net pen farming remains prohibited in Argentina.
