HTML for an archive that is easy to read in a browser.

JSON for structured review by software or an AI agent.

Start the export after Telegram completes its security check.

To export account-wide data instead of one conversation, go to Settings →<br>Advanced → Export Telegram Data . Telegram’s<br>official export instructions describe both<br>paths.

Keep the exported chat private

A Telegram export can contain other people’s messages, personal information,<br>and secrets. Store it like any other sensitive archive, delete copies you no<br>longer need, and avoid uploading the full export to an external service.

For AI-assisted review, JSON is usually easier to process than HTML. Before<br>sharing it, keep only the relevant date range, remove sensitive or unrelated<br>data, and confirm that sharing the conversation is appropriate. The 24-hour security wait

Telegram restricts exports from a newly logged-in desktop session. Its official<br>guidance says that you must either wait 24 hours or confirm the export request<br>from another device.

In my case, I waited. The export became available after the security window<br>ended. This delay is worth planning for if you need an archive by a deadline.
