Microsoft’s proprietary browser Edge will soon no longer support the Manifest V2 addon architecture. Google began the transition to MV3 in Chrome gradually starting in October 2024 and completed it definitively in July 2025. This month, Microsoft intends to initiate the transition to MV3 for Edge. End of uBlock Origin in Edge

This also seals the official end of the classic version of the popular adblocker uBlock Origin under Edge. The application continues to rely on MV2, and this is not expected to change. Alternatively, the stripped-down, MV3-compatible variant uBlock Origin Lite is available.

Anyone who wants to continue using uBlock Origin as an Edge user must therefore switch browsers. Here’s how MV2 support looks for some of the most common alternatives: Opera intends to maintain MV2 support for as long as possible but already advises users to look for MV3-compatible alternatives. Brave will continue to support selected MV2-based extensions; currently, these are Adguard Adblocker, Noscript, uBlock Origin, and uMatrix (as of: August 9, 3:24 PM). Mozilla explicitly intends to continue supporting both MV2 and MV3 for Firefox.
