Moving into implementation

Andrew says Cloudflare&rsquo;s latest launch signals that &ldquo;agentic commerce is moving beyond experimentation and into implementation.&rdquo;

He highlights parallel movement across the industry, referencing similar autonomous payment frameworks developed by major networks, including Visa&rsquo;s Trusted Agent Protocol, Mastercard&rsquo;s Agent Pay and Google&rsquo;s Agent Payments Protocol (A2).

The platform addresses identity validation and financial clearance simultaneously. Every user account is assigned a persistent web address that serves as a unique digital identifier, allowing users to pass specific operational authority to AI agents.

Receiving vendors can instantly verify the source and validity of these requests before completing a transaction.

To facilitate digital currency operations, the central Cloudflare Account Wallet stores and manages stablecoin balances. Enterprises can issue dedicated Virtual Wallets to individual AI agents, setting strict boundaries on spending.

Together, verified digital identities and wallet controls form a structured ecosystem for two-sided agentic transactions.

Trust remains the biggest adoption hurdle<br>Andrew believes giving AI agents a consistent identity and the ability to complete transactions “addresses one of the biggest barriers to adoption.”<br>“For merchants, knowing an AI agent has been authenticated and is acting within a consumer’s delegated permissions is essential if autonomous purchasing is to become a trusted part of everyday commerce,” Andrew continues.<br>“Without that confidence, businesses will continue to treat AI interactions as a risk, instead of embracing them as a powerful opportunity for growth and innovation.”<br>Research by PYMNTS projects the agentic commerce sector to reach US$1.7tn in value. However, persistent worries around fraud and regulatory compliance slow progress as merchants seek greater guarantees around autonomous purchasing.<br>Andrew adds: “The next challenge is ensuring those trust signals extend consistently across the wider ecosystem. AI agents, merchants, payment providers and platforms all need to align around a common set of standards for identity, authentication, delegated authority and accountability.”

Infrastructure shapes autonomous transactions<br>Andrew says the industry’s focus must now shift beyond what AI agents can do and towards building the infrastructure that allows them to operate safely at scale.<br>He explains that agentic commerce will “depend on building infrastructure that makes autonomous transactions as secure, transparent and reliable as tapping a contactless card.”<br>These security updates follow strategic integrations with content creators and technology partners, including beehiiv, Ceramic.ai, Condé Nast and Patreon.<br>To complement its transactional architecture, the provider rolled out Web Bot Auth alongside AI Crawl Control. These tools authenticate automated traffic, monitor bot activity and give site owners granular control over web crawlers.<br>The combined suite underscores that successful AI deployment depends heavily on secure identity, robust verification and reliable financial rails.
