OpenAI’s annualized revenue is set to top $40 billion, Bloomberg reported, one of the quickest growth stories in history, though rivals are fast gaining ground.<br>The figures bolster the ChatGPT maker’s plans for a blockbuster market debut as early as this year. However, cost-conscious customers are increasingly turning to Chinese AI firms including DeepSeek and Moonshot, pushing OpenAI and US rival Anthropic to release their own cheaper models.<br>Meanwhile, SpaceX and Meta have muscled their way into the AI elite ranks, further piling the pressure on the leading frontier labs. The increasing competition comes as OpenAI and Anthropic gear up for what analysts expect will be among the biggest IPOs in history.
