🛡️ Tab Shield & Saver

Protect active tabs from accidental closes and stash entire browser sessions with one click.

A lightweight Chrome extension for people who live in too many tabs. It keeps important pages from vanishing by accident — and parks a whole window of work when you need a clean slate.<br>No servers. No accounts. No tracking. Everything stays in your browser.

✨ What it solves

Closing the wrong tab (or the whole window) is a tiny click with a big cost: lost research, a forgotten checkout, a half-written form.<br>Tab Shield & Saver does two jobs:

Shield — lock the current tab. If it gets closed, the service worker reopens it automatically. If the entire window disappears, the URL is saved to a local backup instead of being lost.

Stash — save every restorable tab in the current window as a named session, then close them in one click. Restore later, inspect individual URLs, or delete what you no longer need.

🚀 Features

🛡️ Shield Mode — Protect the active tab. Accidental closes trigger an automatic reopen plus a desktop notification.

💾 Protected Links Backup — If a window is closed, protected URLs are stored locally. Restore them later from a banner in the popup.

📦 One-Click Stash — Park all tabs in the current window as a session (title + url + timestamp) and start fresh.

📂 Expandable Sessions — Inspect every saved link with favicons, open a single tab, or remove one URL with ×.

✏️ Rename Sessions — Click a session title to give it a custom name. Stored in chrome.storage.local.

🗑️ Safe Delete — Deleting a session asks for confirmation first.

🌙 Dark / Light Mode — Toggle in the header. Your theme preference persists across popup opens.

🔒 100% local — Data never leaves your machine. Permissions used: tabs, storage, activeTab, notifications.

📥 Installation

Coming soon to the Chrome Web Store . Until then, you can load it locally in under a minute:

Clone this repository or download the tab-stash-shield folder.

Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions.

Turn on Developer mode (top right).

Click Load unpacked .

Select the project folder.<br>The icon appears in the toolbar. Click it to open the popup.

After pulling updates, hit Reload on the extension card in chrome://extensions.
