About

I got fed up with Windows 11 in 2026 still not having a good way to view a folder of animated GIFs all at once.

Usually thumbnails are static, viewers show one file at a time, and finding a specific GIF in a folder of hundreds means clicking through them all - the situation is just dumb.

So I made this: Animated GIF Gallery Viewer is a free, private, browser-based tool that opens a folder of animated GIFs and plays every one of them at once in a scrollable grid - with the ability to view individual gifs in fullscreen view with true frame-by-frame pausing/scrubbing and up to 20× zoom.

I'd say its the best GIF viewer there is in 2026.

Features

Everything animates at once — the whole folder plays together, no
clicking through files

Built for big folders — thousands of GIFs stay smooth, because only
what's on screen is decoded

True pause — freeze any GIF exactly where it is, then step through it
one frame at a time

Zoom and fullscreen — click to zoom, scroll to scale 1–20×, or let a
single GIF fill your whole display

Transparency backdrops — swap the colour behind your GIFs to check
transparent edges

Find things fast — filter by filename, sort by name, size or date,
shuffle, and star favorites

Completely private — files never leave your machine; no server, no
upload, no account, no telemetry

Runs anywhere — a folder of static files that works online or straight
off your disk

Available Versions

You can use the fully featured online version here on this itch page - that one is free, unlimited and identical to the offline version.

If you want to download the offline version in case you go somewhere with no internet or itch.io spontaneously combusts in the grimdark future of tomorrow, that'll be 3 bucks thank you.

For using the offline version, simply download, unzip and double-click index.html.

Works via your browser, be it Chrome, Brave, Firefox or something else - Windows, Mac, Linux are all good.

k0nnects5 days ago
Hi! I stumbled across this tool while looking for a way to see all GIFs I have at once and I tried the online version and i noticed it gets super laggy when i want to see all the gifs move at the same time. I was wondering if getting the offline version would be more optimized for viewing a large amount of GIFS (70+) at a time with little to no lag. Thank you!

What computer are you using, what web browser and what operating system?

For reference, I'm using an ASUS A15 Tuf Gaming Laptop (mid-range consumer PC specs), on Firefox, Windows 11.

The offline and online versions are identical, so the performance issues might be due to your computer.

Hmm, your specs should be fine, a 5600G with 32GB is plenty, and the GPU isn't really involved here.

Very likely the Chrome/Firefox difference you noticed might be the biggest issue. The app plays each GIF as a normal and lets the browser animate it, and Chrome handles many simultaneous animated GIFs much worse than Firefox does; it's main-thread work, so it's a browser architecture thing rather than a hardware thing.

Two things worth checking in Chrome: make sure hardware acceleration is on (chrome://settings/system), and have a look at chrome://gpu to see whether it's fallen back to software rendering — that would make it much worse than normal.

Also, how big are your GIFs in pixel dimensions? 70 large ones (say 800×600+) is a lot more per-frame work than...
