I launched my stock
Like a company, I now have shares.
When you hold shares of me, you hold a stake in the wealth I will create across my life - beyond $10M (adjusted for inflation) – from stakes in companies, other personal stocks, and broadly, any assets with high upside potential.
My stock is:
An agreement between my shareholders and myself.
A public ledger of events that impact it.
I want to build a new kind of community (Rootnet) in which each member holds a stake in the collective success of the network itself - incentivizing a culture of collaboration that we've never seen. The Personal Stock is the first step.
I intend to create value through stakes in other people, and through a stake in Rootnet. I don't intend to start or invest in companies.
Right now, I have no holdings that fall within the scope of my stock. When I do acquire a holding (like a stake in a company or another personal stock), it will be recorded in the ledger.
I view my stock as a tool to incentivize people to help me to realize my potential.
I intend to hire people who can help amplify my impact across everything I may touch. Their compensation will include a stake in me. And I intend to bring on board teachers, mentors, and supporters as investors.
The modern company required centuries of iteration to achieve its present, robust form. The personal stock won’t be any different.
Amendments to the agreement require 75% of non-owner shares to accept before it takes effect for everyone. I predict that we'll have many.
This is why we must have the ability to buyout misaligned shareholders. If there is sufficient support for an amendment, we must be able to force alignment to progress. Otherwise we will stagnate.
I care deeply about my reputation. Without a strong reputation, I won't be able to attract and incentivize the collaboration and support I want across my life.
I believe that by acting fairly, transparently, offering strong (and early) liquidity for my shares, and by ensuring that my shareholders win, I will strengthen my reputation and become an increasingly lucrative asset for people to invest their time and capital in.
Which is why, in addition to all of the events that will impact the state my stock, buyouts will also be recorded in the ledger with explanations. Similarly, I will publish financials for how I spent the capital that I raise. I want to build a public track record of my judgment.
I will keep my personal stock active for my entire life, and I look forward to working with many people across my life to realize my potential.
Because it takes a village.
