Before AI-assisted writing, writing meant staring at a blank page. Writing, refining, and editing until you were done.
But now anyone can automate thousands of words of anything.
Enough words have been written about that.
What I want to write about right now is how easy and tempting it is to go from the former to the latter.
I use LLM’s as a research tool and do my very best to still be the reason words end up in the final copy. But at some point along the way, especially when writing for more complicated topics, the temptation becomes too much.
Instead of asking an LLM to explain something in more detail, parse that in your own head and find the right words to express what you mean, the next prompt is…
Why don’t you make a copy suggestion here
It’s easy. So easy. Too easy. I hate it. I hate myself when I do it.
The cheat code, push-to-win button is right there. Taunting me as I write.
I’m doing my damnedest not to push it. I think it’s really important not to. Otherwise, what are any of us doing?
Keep writing. The only way out is through.
There's more where this came from
Subscribe for updates. Not spam.
