While still a documentary of his creative process, the film tries to convey the idea that no big choice should be made from a place of uncertainty. I partly agree, though if you wait too long, you might as well not choose at all. I’m also certain that what we are doing now, as people, is completely wrong in the opposite direction, and at the same time the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life, until tomorrow.Everything happening in these years is the best example of choice made in far-from-ideal circumstances, ones that lead to a situation where the smartest adult I know in the field is three words from becoming a toddler again.I spent most of my life thinking smart people knew what was best; in reality, smart people know, and nothing else, unless they ask themselves the right questions. And the game is done.By the time tomorrow arrives, our greatest ideas will already be dead and buried. An old man said those words at their funeral: ‘Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.’In a world that lives and changes so fast, how can we be sure we won’t find ourselves in the same spot after a thousand years of chaotically trying to move forward?In this collection of short dissertations, we’ll try to find reasonable answers to these questions. We’ll probably find none, but at least I hope the room isn’t quite so much in motion anymore.
